Bilko wins Dew Tour opener in Baltimore {2008 }
Australia's Blake Williams rocked the world of freestyle motocross on the weekend, shooting to the top of the AST Dew Tour standings with a standout win at the Panasonic Open in Baltimore.
Williams had entered the event opting to take a conservative approach, but quickly made an impact as he set an impressive qualifying score, good enough for third place.
It was in the FMX final however when Bilko really hit his stride, recording a 90.33 jump on his first attempt, the benchmark for rival riders.
The world's best took aim but none could topple the 23-year-old Victorian's top score.
He backed it up with a similarly impressive 89.83 to take honours in the first round of the tour.
Bilko now has a perfect 100-point score next to his name and was elated to come out on top in Baltimore.
"What a result first up, it's really good to get a win under my belt so early, it will do lots for my confidence," said Williams.
"Coming out here and beating Nate (Adams) at the first stop on the tour means a lot after the rough year I had last year," he said.
"This is a very nice way of saying, 'Hey, I'm back.'"
"We're teammates and good friends, and it's an honour just to share a podium with him, much less come out on top. I'm looking forward to a good year of battling each other."
2008 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for the Aussie, and his opening round has been in stark contrast to a disappointing 2007 season where he was injured at the same event after finishing second.
